Who we are
Quid is the data controller for the information described here. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact us at support@quidapp.co.uk.
Information we collect
Account: your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider).
Profile: university, home country, UK city/area, preferred language, and an optional profile photo.
Budgeting: the figures you enter yourself: monthly budget, spending categories, amounts you log, and savings goals. This is self-reported.
Quid does not connect to your bank and has no access to your real bank accounts or transactions.
Community: any posts, comments, and likes you create. These are visible to other users.
Setup progress: which first-week checklist items you've completed.
Approximate location: only if you grant permission, used to find nearby places (see section 5).
Quid AI messages: the questions you send to the in-app assistant, plus a summary of your budget figures, so it can answer (see section 4).
How and why we use it
We use your data to run your account, personalise budgeting insights, deals and community content, answer Quid AI questions, and keep the service secure. Our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (to provide the app), your consent (for location and optional features), and our legitimate interests (to keep Quid working and safe).
We do not sell your personal data, ever.
Quid AI and Anthropic
When you use Quid AI, your message and a summary of your own budget figures are sent to Anthropic (the provider of the Claude model) to generate a reply. This lets the assistant reference your actual numbers. Do not share anything you wouldn't want processed by a third-party AI provider. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf and does not use it to train its models.
Location
If you allow location access, we use your device's approximate coordinates to show places near you (e.g. supermarkets, GPs, banks) and to display your area. Coordinates are used on your device and to look up nearby places; we do not store your location history on our servers. You can revoke this permission any time in your device settings.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the providers that run the app: Supabase (secure database, authentication and photo storage), Anthropic (Quid AI, see section 4), a currency-exchange-rate API (for the converter), OpenStreetMap (to find nearby places), and Sentry (crash and performance diagnostics, so we can fix bugs. This receives error reports and device information, but not your name, email or budget). Tapping a deal or a map opens a third party's own site or app, which has its own privacy policy. We don't control those.
International transfers
Your account and content are stored in the UK/EU region. Some providers, such as Anthropic, may process data outside the UK (e.g. the United States). Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent standard contractual clauses.
Storage and security
Your account and content are stored securely with our hosting provider (Supabase) in the UK/EU region, protected by row-level security. Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Your login session is kept in local storage on your device. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data from our systems, except anything we're legally required to keep. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account. Use the delete option in your Profile.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can: access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and request a copy in a portable format. You can update most details in your Profile and delete your account there. To make any other request, email support@quidapp.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Email communications
We send only transactional emails: verification codes and password resets. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
Children
Quid is intended for university students aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll change the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
